Casa di Giulietta

Here I am looking more than a little haggard after the incredibly long and uncomfortable journey from Mobile. Why can't there be more leg room in planes? Adding insult to injury, it was also very HOT on the plane. I had serious doubts as to whether or not we would ever arrive in Italy. I'm happy to say, we did.

O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

These pictures were taken in Verona, our first stop in Italy. We flew into Milan but I'm thinking a visit to the airport does not actually count as a visit to the city. While in Verona, we visited Juliet's home. It is not certain if Juliet actually lived here. However, her family definitely owned it so it is a possibility. It is more of a legend or perhaps wishful thinking for the people of Verona.

I'm leaving on a jet plane . . .

... but before I go I wanted to share a few pictures of the Irish Hiking Scarf. I also managed to complete two pairs of socks for the Italian adventure but, since blogger is giving me a hard time, there are no photos yet. You guys wish me luck. I will be traveling with teenagers. Yikes!!

Small Successes

I've managed to knit and block the Irish Hiking Scarf without incident. It is lovely. I used 3 1/2 balls of Rowan Yorkshire Tweed in crimson. I plan to wear it with great joy in Italy. If I can't have a successful sweater, at least I can wear a warm, cozy, handknit scarf. I'll post pictures tomorrow. I also completed a pair of socks. The Laburnum pattern from Sensational Socks. I used Socks That Rock in Firebird(at least that's what I think it was called). They are okay. I'll post some photos of the socks tomorrow or Tuesday.

Wanna Monkey Around?

Here's my version of Monkey Socks. I knit them with Jitterbug in the Tuscano colorway. I love the colors in this yarn. I'm pretty fond of the socks too. I do not know why my feet look so mishappen in the first picture. I assure you I have perfectly normal shaped feet.

Somewhat better picture

Can you feel my pain?

I have been smote!

I'm not sure why. Was I unkind to the checkout lady this morning? Have I been having too many hateful thoughts? Was I simply too proud of myself? Any one of these could be the reason that I have been humbled. My beautful sweater . . . DEAD. Lost to me before it even had a chance to outshine any of those store bought sweaters -- struck down by cruel fate.

You might remember my mention of "sweater number two." I planned to wear it with the collar folded down like this. I purchased 19 skeins of Elann Highland Chunky in the Forest Glade Heather colorway. The color was beautiful. Really, you'd have to see it to appreciate its loveliness. I was in love and so proud that I had finished it in time for my trip to Italy.

I planned to block it and sew it together tonight. I put it in the washing machine to soak. (like I have dozens of times before) I must admit that I became distracted by a work project and wasn't giving it the proper attention. Anyway, it FELTED!!! This is all that's left. Maybe, it will make a nice cat bed.

I bought a new digital camera but apparently that has not improved my photography skills. I apologize.

Llama Love

This guy liked me.

I went into this class wondering how it would be possible to fill an entire four hours with basket weaving. I thought we'd have that basket finished in no time. Half way through the class --- I wondered, will four hours be enough time to finish? But, finish we did. It was exhausting!!!

I wish I could get back into some semi-regular blog posting. Alas, I cannot. I have been too busy having fun. Coming up --- a two-week trip to Italy.
